Wireless CarPlay & Android Auto Decoder for BMW NBT System (1-7 Series, X1-X6, F10-F56)

Important compatibility note before purchasing: This decoder is designed exclusively for BMW vehicles running the NBT infotainment system. Your main menu must display “ConnectedDrive” as a menu item to confirm NBT compatibility. If your BMW main menu shows “CD/Multimedia” instead, your vehicle runs the older CIC system, and this decoder will not work. Confirm your system before ordering.

BMW’s NBT generation of vehicles shipped without wireless CarPlay or Android Auto. This decoder box retrofits that capability directly into the factory head unit, using the car’s existing screen, knob controller, and steering wheel buttons without replacing anything in the dash.

What It Does

The decoder plugs into the vehicle’s existing LVDS and CAN connections behind the head unit, adding a full suite of smartphone connectivity features to the factory display. Once installed, the car’s original controls handle everything. The iDrive knob navigates CarPlay and Android Auto menus the same way it navigates the stock BMW interface, and steering wheel media buttons function without remapping.

Wireless and Wired CarPlay / Android Auto

Both iOS and Android phones connect wirelessly over WiFi or via USB cable. Wireless connection means your phone stays in your pocket or bag while navigation, calls, music, and messaging run on the factory screen. Phone audio routes through the original BMW speaker system via Bluetooth for lossless sound quality.

AirPlay and Autolink Screen Mirroring

AirPlay supports wireless and wired screen mirroring from iOS devices. Autolink mirrors Android phone screens via USB. Both protocols allow any app running on the phone, including navigation, video, and music apps, to display on the factory screen.

Built-in Media Apps

The decoder runs YouTube, Netflix, Spotify, and TuneIn directly on the car screen without requiring a phone connection. These apps run from the decoder’s own media module, which is an optional accessory available at order time.

Navigation Support

Apple Maps, Google Maps, and other mainstream navigation apps run natively through CarPlay. Turn-by-turn directions display on the factory screen with independent volume control for navigation prompts separate from media audio.

Voice Control

Siri activates for iOS users and Google Assistant for Android users via a voice wake function. Both work without touching the screen or phone.

HD Input

The decoder includes an HDMI-compatible HD input. Any external device with HDMI output, including laptops, TV boxes, and DVD players, can display on the factory BMW screen via HD cable.

CMS Camera Support (Optional)

The optional CMS camera system replaces the traditional door mirror view with a wide-angle digital camera feed displayed on the factory screen. The Sony IMX sensor supports AHD 720p at 25Hz, wide dynamic range processing, and low-light night vision, maintaining clear visibility in rain, at night, and in bright sun. Left side, right side, or both can be configured. The original reverse camera and factory 360-degree camera systems remain fully supported.

Dynamic Island Interface

A floating shortcut layer sits over the main interface. Double-clicking the back key opens quick controls for navigation volume, floating picture-in-picture, and home return without navigating through menus. The floating picture window supports four transparency levels, repositionable placement around the screen, and size adjustment.
