The Audi A3 is a German-engineered premium compact hatchback and a benchmark in the entry-level luxury segment. From 2010 onwards, the A3 has spanned three generations: the facelifted second-generation (8P), the third-generation (8V, introduced 2012), and the fourth-generation (8Y, introduced 2020). Each generation builds on Audi’s reputation for refined build quality, driver-focused dynamics, and upmarket interior craftsmanship.
Available in multiple body styles including three-door hatchback, five-door Sportback, sedan, and cabriolet, the A3 covers a broad range of driver preferences within a compact footprint. Engine options across the generations include turbocharged petrol four-cylinders (1.4 TFSI through 2.0 TFSI), turbodiesel units (1.6 TDI and 2.0 TDI), and plug-in hybrid variants. Performance-oriented S3 and RS3 derivatives extend the range significantly, with the current RS3 producing up to 400 PS. Drivetrain configurations span front-wheel drive and Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive system, paired with manual, S-tronic dual-clutch, or torque-converter automatic transmissions.
The A3 platform shifted to Volkswagen Group’s MQB architecture from the third generation onward, delivering sharper handling, improved refinement, and broader technology integration. Standard and optional equipment across model years includes dual-zone climate control, MMI infotainment, virtual cockpit displays, LED lighting, and advanced driver assistance systems. The A3 remains one of the most popular premium compact vehicles globally, with a large and active ownership base.
